Donard and Commedagh – straight to the Mournes

Every step forward will bring new horizons – Inspiration

Ah the Mournes Mountains…only 1 hour away from Belfast you enter a new world. CS Lewis found its inspiration for Narnia over there.

Multiple hikes are available…perhaps the most straightforward one: park at Donard Car Park in Newcastle and walk up Slieve Donard and/or Commedagh. It can take you from 3 to 5 hours depending on your level of fitness. The path is easy to follow (stick to the river!)

I took these pictures a few weeks ago after some early snow fall. It was a brilliant day: sunny and snowy on the ground yet no wind to be found !

I just lost myself between the summit of Donard and the one of Commedagh and wandered…admiring this beautiful place.
